It’s common to hear parents tell their kids, “the world isn’t fair.” And most of us accept this. But others are driven by a strong sense that everyone should be treated equally and have the same opportunities.

This drive is found in those who have the strengthsfinder consistency talent.

As you learn to lead through your consistency strength, you can ensure credit is given where it is due, everyone gets fair opportunities and is held to the same standards.

Your Strengths Have AntiPatterns

Consistency StrengthsFinder TL;DR

The consistency StrengthsFinder talent means you want everyone treated the same and given a fair shot.

You organize the world around you through sets of rules guiding how things should be. When those rules are violated, you feel a keen sense of injustice.

You'll naturally be a strong advocate for setting things right

You’re always rooting for the underdog and don’t want to see anyone taking unfair advantage of another.

What is StrengthsFinder?

SterengthsFinder, now CliftonStrengths, is an assessment based on strengths psychology. The fundamental premise is you will get farther by maxing out your strengths rather than trying to improve your weaknesses.

I’ve seen numerous leaders grow as they identified their talents and turned them into well-developed strengths. But you don’t have to be a leader to benefit from StrengthsFinder, and you can apply it to more than just work.

Understanding your strengths and weaknesses helps you better understand and live out your unique design.

Consistency is just one of the 34 different strengths measured by StengthsFinder. When you take the assessment, you will get back your top 5 strengths. You can pay for an ordered list of all 34, but I wouldn’t recommend that the first time you take the assessment.

Focus is critical to developing your strengths. Keeping just your top 5 in view helps you make meaningful growth in the areas of your life with the highest leverage and impact.

How do you lead well with consistency in your StrengthsFinder top 5?

So you’ve taken the StrengthsFinder assessment, received your results and found consistency in the list. Now you’re wondering how to grow or leverage this strength in your leadership.

I also have a strong sense of justice and equity, and I've worked hard to bring voice to those without it.

I’ve seen leaders use four strategies to bring consistency to their teams and organizations.

  1. Clarify your values.
  2. Be an agent of change.
  3. Recognize your privilege.
  4. Celebrate those who are unseen.

Learn to recognize behaviors when you're over-leveraging your strengths to the point that they become liabilities. And discover the path back to health.

Clarify your values.

If consistency is one of your top 5 StrengthsFinder talents, you will likely have a clear sense of justice and fairness. Identify the values that drive your desire for consistency.

Use your facilitation skills to guide your team to create rules and guidelines that reflect these values for the people who work with you or are in your organization. This will help ensure everyone follows the same standards.

Be an agent of change.

When people deviate from the shared values, you'll naturally be a strong advocate for setting things right.

You feel a keen sense of justice

Everyone deserves to be treated fairly and given equal access to opportunities, so use your strength to push back against unfairness wherever it occurs and fight for lasting change.

Recognize your privilege.

Privilege can be a loaded word, but the reality is, as leaders, we often have privileges (such as power, status or money) that others don't.

Be aware of these privileges and use them to create a level playing field. Make sure everyone has equal opportunities and access to resources that will help them succeed.

Take time to evaluate how you're using your privilege. Is it to help you get further ahead or lift others up who didn't have the same opportunities, resources or connections you did?

Celebrate those who are unseen.

Focus more on recognizing the people in your organization who get less attention or recognition, such as interns, new employees or volunteers. Support their growth and development by creating formal mentorship programs or giving them additional responsibilities.

You’re always rooting for the underdog

Showing appreciation for their contributions is vital in developing a culture of consistency. When people see one another, it creates space for empathy.

As you learn to lead using your consistency strength, you can shift the norm in different spaces from unfair to fair.

Keep rooting for the underdogs. Steward your consistency strength, so people are no longer taken advantage of. But instead, everyone gets their fair shot.

Seeing your other 29 strengths can help give you a fuller picture.
